With decades of experience,
we know how to find top
talent for schools across the country
When Andrew completed his PGCE, not even he could have predicted the career path that followed. These days, he applies his passion, enthusiasm and good sense of humour across the four businesses which make up Pertemps Professional Recruitment.
Since he left the classroom, Andrew has spent 25 years in recruitment, including four appointments as a managing director in the education, healthcare, social care and international markets.
Director of education
Matthew has worked in recruitment for 25 years and, after moving into education recruitment, has worked for some of the largest agencies in the UK.
As a parent himself, Matthew takes education recruitment very seriously. He knows that all schools want to find talented teachers who are right for them, so for him, the starting point Is to gain an in-depth understanding of each client school. He says the secret of being a great recruiter is understanding what that school needs, and being able to think creatively about how to find those people. His approach is the same for candidates in that he sees it as our job to help them find the perfect role to match their skills, experience and ability.

Since joining PPR in January 2018, Chloe has thrown herself into what must seem like an ever-changing role. She provides business support at Pertemps Professional Recruitment and is responsible for marketing, HR and the development of internal systems and processes.
Chloe is passionate about the social care and education recruitment sectors. Working across the business, she channels her organised and hardworking approach to challenge the status quo. Her priorities are to deliver efficiencies, streamline the recruitment process and improve the candidate journey.
After studying Business at Manchester Metropolitan University, James put his studies to good use in a role in Branch Banking at the Royal Bank of Scotland. Fortunately for us he decided to make the move into education recruitment in 2012 when he joined Hourglass Education.
For James, successful recruitment consultants must first listen to what their teachers want. After all, they are at the centre of everything they do. He says, ‘the job becomes a lot simpler when you view it as a service, rather than trying to “sell” to either party’.
When quizzed about his role, Josh identifies as ‘a young Patrick Vieira’! Apparently this makes him ‘the driving force behind the Hourglass Education machine!’
Josh left Sheffield Hallam University with a BA (Hons) in Media Studies and started his career in banking. He had not considered working in education recruitment, but we were happy to introduce him to the idea. One of his career highlights must be the part he played a very successful recruitment drive.
Ed is viewed by his colleagues with a little awe and a bit more bemusement! This is not about work - as a recruitment consultant Ed is organised, conscientious and hardworking, and regularly receives positive feedback from his candidates. He particularly enjoys the time he spends on the phone and communicating with his client schools and teachers on a daily basis.
A graduate of Northumbria University, Ed values the opportunity to learn ‘on the job’ and is constantly open to taking in information and developing new skills.
Claire brings a wealth of experience to her role as Overseas Lead at Hourglass. Having previously led our compliance function, she combines that specialist expertise with her commitment to sourcing the very best teachers from around the world.
Claire is convinced that overseas teachers add value to UK schools. Their rich and diverse life view enhances the classroom experience and broadens horizons for the whole school community. She also knows that successful recruitment requires thorough preparation and reliable, consistent support and is passionate about helping overseas teachers build happy and settled lives in the UK.
Compliance & resourcing officer
We’re delighted to welcome Stephanie to the compliance team at Hourglass. She brings a wide range of organisational skills and experience to her role as compliance and resourcing officer. She also has a background in sales, and thrives when she’s busy, talking to people and providing solutions to their problems.
Often seen with sticky-notes and impressive stationary, Stephanie is also active and enjoys being in the fresh air. Last Summer, she walked 70 miles with her dogs in aid of cancer research, plays netball regularly and has jumped out of a plane!

Hourglass is born
Hourglass’ handpicked team of experienced recruitment consultants establishes itself in the UK education recruitment market.
James Letven plays a lead role in a ground-breaking recruitment event in Kingston, Jamaica. 41 of those teachers extended their contracts after an initial two year term. In 2021, more than 30 of them are still employed at the trust – and some are leading academies of their own.
Hourglass is now renowned for its tailor-made overseas recruitment trips.
2017 marked the start of a hugely successful relationship with a large multi-academy trust. Since then, we have continued to work in partnership with them and other UK clients to source the high calibre teachers they need - many from overseas.
Hourglass joins PPR
In 2019, Hourglass teamed up with Pertemps Professional Recruitment. This is a great fit as we share an ambitious approach to recruitment, a passion for working with people, and operating with honesty and integrity.
Award winning leadership
It’s fair to say Andrew Anastasiou’s business plan is consistently ambitious!
Having established Pertemps Professional Recruitment in December 2016, he has overseen its dramatic growth and radical brand development, and Hourglass is delighted to play its part in that.
Andrew’s leadership skills were recognised in 2021 when he won 'Agency Recruitment Leader of the Year' in the prestigious Recruiter Awards.
